A Funeral

Mary Jean Null-Boulé, 1928-2007
A few posts back I blogged about my cousin Emily’s wedding. About two weeks after our family got together for the wedding, we found ourselves back together again–but this time to celebrate the life of my grandmother; Mary Jean Null-Boulé.
It’s hard for me to express with words the significance of my “Ma.” I don’t feel like anything I could ever write would be strong or poignant enough to do her memory any justice- nor would it feel appropriate to attempt a eulogy of sorts through a blog entry. But I felt like I needed to at least post something about her passing because it was a very significant loss for me, and has been on my mind a great deal.
My “Ma” was truly an extraordinary woman who meant so much to me and our entire family. A matriarch, in the truest sense of the word, that brought so much– including the special gift of music into my family. For this, I am not only blessed and thankful, but am delighted that it will forever be a part of her legacy. I learned so much from her- about life, love, loss, humility, charity and character. I will forever aspire to live a life as full and with as much spirit. She was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a lover, a musician, an author, a business woman, a teacher, a grandmother, a role-model, a #1 fan and a truly remarkable and wonderful person. Her smile and laugh would light up a room, and her beauty- although humbly dismissed, was captivating and undeniable. I will miss her greatly, but am so very thankful for the 22 years I was able to spend with her. I love you, Ma.
New Fresh Produce Merchandise for F/W!
October 26, 2007
Super fly, huh? Haha. SO, I figured if The Pubs can get lighters– Fresh P can get skatedecks and graphic T’s, right?! hahaha. SIKE. Steven over at Trickwood (go visit their online store and buy some stuff!) brightened my afternoon by sending over some fake mock-ups for Fresh P merchandise. How funny is that? haha. So don’t worry, I’m not seriously hocking merch over here! But thanks Steven– you’re my favorite.
Anti-Groping Cellphone App.
October 26, 2007

Wow. You read the title correctly. The 7th most downloaded cellphone application in Japan these days is an anti-groping app that allows women to send messages to male gropers on trains. The “Anti-Groping Appli” was created back in 2005 by games developer Takahashi and has recently jumped in downloads. I’ve been told this is a big issue over there– although I didn’t personally experience it. But wow, the fact that it’s prevalent enough for an application to be created– and actually downloaded, is a little nutty. And the messages; let’s face it, are hilarious. It’s funny to me to think that showing someone a text message on a train ANYWHERE in the world might actually deter them from doing anything. That would never work in the states. Apparently, instituting all female train cars in Japan wasn’t quite enough to alleviate this ridiculous problem. Bizarre. Read the full story over at ABC.com.

If I ever need a hearing aid…
October 26, 2007
… I want mine to come in this packaging.

The design is by Copenhagan design studio Goodmorning Technology, for Widex “high definition hearing.”
I’m a huge fan of well-designed, and creative packaging– I say fan, but some might say “sucker.” Anyhow, this box for a hearing aid is some of the coolest in package design I’ve seen in awhile. As you pull the innerbox out of the sheath, it simulates a sound wave in action. Ingenius if you think about the fact that whomever is opening/needing the device relies much more on visual cues than aural. Love it. Watch the video below for a demo
Falling Water, The Movie
October 26, 2007
A friend sent me this video awhile back, because I’m a huge fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, and it’s quite amazing. It was produced by Cristóbal Vila, whose work makes up the graphic and animation studio Eterea Studios. You can view his full work here, but this Falling Water movie is definitely my favorite. Also, if you’re interested in more general info about Falling Water, Eterea has put together quite an extensive About page.
Polka Tattoo Furniture
October 26, 2007
Stumbled on this Tattoo Furniture, by Polka, and thought it was a cool (or maybe just novel) idea. For those of us who aren’t big into getting ink, but appreciate the artistry and skill that goes into it– here’s a solution. Contact Polka with your custom tattoo design, and they’ll have international artist Gert Kowarzik make you some tatt’ed furniture for your house. They don’t run cheap, but it’s still a cool concept.

A Real Unicorn
October 23, 2007

So awhile back I was posting about my favorite search engine terms that led people to my blog. Well today I got a real doozy of a search term. Someone searched for “A Real Unicorn” and found my site. How adorable. But on a serious note– aren’t we all just searching for a real unicorn in some, way, shape or form? Think it over.

So, Salts and I decided that if we were to have a kid together (or even a hampster or small animal) that we would have to name it….. wait for it….
“Fresh Salty P-Nuts”…. yep. Saltbags on caffeine and Fresh P in her normal state can have some amazingly insightful and inspiring AIM sessions. Genius. Enjoy your Tuesday.

A Wedding
October 12, 2007
A few weeks back my cousin Emily got married. It was an amazing ceremony and reception, and it was wonderful to see my whole family (my brother even flew in for the ordeal). They had the reception (and most people stayed) at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane– what a place. We had a blast, and Emily & Matt were the happiest I’ve ever seen them. Congratulations to them, and here are some photos I jacked from the photo website. Enjoy!
The Happy Couple
The whole Boulé crew
Swing Dancing
Mom & Bro, Dad & Me
And my favorite part; the food
Congratulations Emily & Matt!
