My new e-mail box…
July 30, 2007

… so another huge highlight of my trip back home was the purchase of a new laptop. I’ve been using a sweet little Macbook for the last year, but because it was my work computer I have to give it back. womp womp. But that’s ok, cause I majorly upgraded and scooped a 2.4 GHZ MacbookPro, bitches. Shit is on point, and everyone loves new toys. Now I’ll never leave my house…
A weekend in the PDX
July 30, 2007

I spent last weekend in PDX chilling with the family and some homies just bumming around and sleeping a lot. I hadn’t been home since before Spring break, so the moms was pretty happy I came home– and I was equally happy when she offered to cook, clean and do my laundry for me. haha. Some highlights included spending some time downtown bumming around, watching movies with my mom, going to a ghetto breakfast at Ihop with my folks, and spending a night at Oscars playing shuffleboard with the boys– James, Dubbs, Kevin & Tiger Woods, haha. It was pretty relaxing, and although I didn’t blog as much as I’d hoped (I didn’t blog at all) I did get a lot of letter-writing done.
My Architect
July 24, 2007

I don’t know why I haven’t blogged about this film until now. I think I’ve had the intention of blogging it about 5 different times, but never have. I’ve been telling people to go watch this movie since the first time I watched it about two years ago with my dad. It’s an amazing film by the son of famous architect Louis I. Kahn, Nathanial Kahn. It’s a documentary about the son’s path to discover his father through visiting his architecture, but you really couldn’t write a story more compelling if you tried. It’s a beautiful film, so please go rent it, or download it, or whatever you have to do. The story is beyond compelling, and the cinematography and the way he captures the architecture will take your breath away, and might even bring a little tear to your eye. Learn more about the film here, and more about Louis Kahn right here.
Kicked out…
July 24, 2007

So I’m subletting a place for the summer, and today our landlord is showing our place. Unfortunately for me, I’m illegally subletting so I had to get the hell out of my apartment at 10 this morning, after waking up at 8 to clean my room. Lame. So now I’m here at Zoka down in the Udistrict, using free wifi to blog, surf the internets, while also doing some letter writing… then I’m gonna go back home, and start getting ready to go to work… what an exciting day.
Chromeo @ Sing Sing!
July 23, 2007
So last Friday was the 1st Anniversary of Sing Sing, at The War Room and it was quite the night ladies and gents! It got started off right with Pretty Titty & FOURCOLORZACK holding it down. Then on to Flosstradamus and finally ending with an amazing performance by Chromeo. They are so dreamy. Anyhow, it was quite the night if I may say so myself, and I haven’t danced that hard in a long time! Team Savory (with the lovely Shelbs and JR) were out and in full force, and we definitely managed to be completely on point and completely out of pocket all at the same time. We’re amazing like that. There were lots of shots, donkey punches, year 2000 playlists, KA’ing, and “if you aint got no money take your broke ass home” yelling spouts. It was outrageous, and a small sampling of pics can be seen here. More photos to be posted soon.
Scootas Revisited…
July 23, 2007
So most of you probably saw this youtube clip back when it was posted over at Publikhair.com. BUT, I laugh at it everytime I see it, so I thought I’d give it some more blog time– and I needed to shout out Anthony for providing the inspiration to blog tonight. You guys will definitely be the first ones invited to the NASCC…when and if they have one, haha. I’ll let you wrap your brains around that acronym on your own, haha. Anyways thanks Anthony & Kyle for the chuckles. You’re the best super homosexual friends a girl could have!
Target Australia X Stella McCartney
July 23, 2007
Now, I’ve posted before about how I love this whole “High Fashion for the Masses” trend that’s going on right now– and I still do love it. BUT, I hate it when foreign countries get better access to cooler shit than we get in the states. Case and point– Australia’s Targets having Stella McCartney as part of their GO international line. Rubbish, I tell you! This was back in March that Target Australia launched a line with Stella, but all I’m asking is that you bring her to the US! Please?! Even if she did another line with H&M I’d be semi-satisfied. Here’s a look at some of the beautiful designs that I can only get on ebay….<sigh>
As a sidenote, I just switched perfumes to McCartney’s “Stella in Two Peony,” and it’s amazing. I love it.
Letter Writing: A Dying Art
July 23, 2007

Everyone loves getting snail-mail (almost as much as I love that stellar clipart picture I snagged for this post), but it hardly ever happens anymore. What happened to the good ole days when people wrote eachother letters, and had personal and hard-copy mementos of their sentiments?! No one can deny that everytime you open the mailbox and there’s a real letter in there it’s like a tiny little paper present, am I right?! Awhile back I stumbled on this project called “The Letter Project.” Basically it’s this guy, Rick Schrager, who will write anyone and everyone a letter that requests it. I thought this was pretty dope, and promptly put in my letter request. Even though I haven’t received my letter yet, I was thinking about it today, and decided that I want to help bring back letter writing too. In this world of text messaging, e-mail and social networking sites, it’s really easy to just use virtual and digital correspondence. But that kind of sucks. It takes the personal flare out of it, and it makes it way too easy. SO, with that being said, I’ve got a whole lot of unused stationary and a whole bunch of stamps. So if you send me your address in the comments section, I’ll do MY best at writing you a letter. (Don’t worry, I can moderate my comments so leave your address, I’ll get it and then delete it so creepsters don’t get your mailing address). And to all my friends out there, expect that I’ll be asking you for your shit cause I’m about to bombard your mailboxes (the ones in real life) with some good ole, handwritten, love notes from the heart. I can already tell you’re excited!
Things I don’t like…
July 22, 2007

…haircuts gone awry. I got my haircut on Friday and it was yet another negative experience. My hair doesn’t look terrible– I don’t have some god awful cut that I have to hide with hats or scarves. BUT, I do hate when you go to get your haircut, tell them exactly what you want, and they still manage to screw it up. I told my lady that I wanted “half an inch cut off”… and somehow she interpreted that as “two and a half inches off.” My lady straight cut my hair into the in-between stage…. not liking that one bit…

Sunday=Sports Day
July 22, 2007
So every Sunday I open at my work. I get there around 11am, get my jobs done in about an hour (because I’m super efficient, ha), and then proceed to sit and do nothing from 12-5pm. It’s brutal– especially because theres no wifi that I can steal. I hate it. BUT, I do get to take in my fair share of sports because after I finish handwriting out possible blog entries (how archaic right?!), and reading magazines for a few hours, I am still super bored with nothing to do. Most people watch their sports on Sundays, so Sundays=Sports Days is nothing new. But I just felt like sharing that today I watched Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington in the British Open, Bucky Lasek lose to Shaun White, the Bluejays shut out the Mariners, and a dominant Rogers/Dalhausser beach volleyball team win in Long Beach. What an array of sports I watched… what a Sunday… can’t wait till next week.

Stephen Holl
July 12, 2007

In my opinion, Stephen Holl is one of the most prolific contemporary architects around. The way in which he uses and plays with light is truly captivating and the organic nature of his designs get me every time. Some of you Seattleites might be familiar with his work without even knowing it, as he is the architect behind the Chapel of St. Ignatius on the campus of Seattle University.

If you haven’t experienced this building, take a field trip stat. Go tomorrow. Go tomorrow morning and go again at night. The way he uses light in that space will take your breath away. And the fact that there isn’t a 90 degree angle in the whole place is pretty captivating too. Anyways, this guy is dope and the addition he designed to the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City, MO is no exception. The new five building addition- known as the Bloch Building- opened yesterday to the public and is absolutely beautiful.

Holl’s larger architectural concepts of integrating natural landscapes with his structures, as well as emphasizing and accentuating natural light and reflections of water seemed to all come together perfectly with the Bloch building. I think it’s pretty interesting the way his five buildings- which he refers to as lenses- are juxtaposed with a classic temple-style building donning huge ionic columns which is very representative of an old and often sterile way of experiencing “art”. While Holl’s buildings seem to represent a new way to experience art- through the marriage and integration of art on the outside (the architecture) and the art that lies within. Truly breathtaking, and I hope to visit someday. Find out more info on the Bloch building here or here.
A glimpse into the future…

Progression is the key to success, or something. So in order to keep Fresh Produce progressing, I’m unveiling my plans for the future. All that needs to be said at this time is Bus-blogging and Blog Parties. It’s some next level shit, people.

Song Requests & Video Wars
July 10, 2007
Blair– I have no song requests for you tonight, you know how to bring the house down so do your thing. Thanks for letting me hang-out and play with your cats, causing my right eye to itch and swell. See you tonight.
The other evening I had quite the video duel with one of my internet friends Kyle. He reminded me of just how many wonderfully awkward videos I have been saving up to use in the perfect situations. Here is one that came in quite handy when comparing work-out routines with another dope internet friend. Enjoy.
